If Surya (Sun) transits through certain Rashi during even Tithis, they can become Dagdha or burnt Tithis. Dagdha Tithis are known as inauspicious for starting any kind of work (as it's written in classical Jyotirvidyabharanam). Rishi (sage) Brihaspati also says that if Dagdha is present either for Lagna or Tithi then it inflicts death.
Below you can find a list with all combinations of Tithi and Rashi that form Dagdha Tithis:
  • if Surya (Sun) transits through Dhanu (Sagittarius) or Meena (Pisces) during Dwitiya,Tithi becomes Dagdha.
  • if Surya (Sun) transits through Kumbha (Aquarius) or Vrishabha (Taurus) during Chaturthi, Tithi becomes Dagdha.
  • if Surya (Sun) transits through Mesha (Aries) or Karkata (Cancer) during Shashti, Tithi becomes Dagdha.
  • if Surya (Sun) transits through Mithuna (Gemini) or Kanya (Virgo) during Ashtami, Tithi becomes Dagdha.
  • if Surya (Sun) transits through Simha (Leo) or Vrshchika (Scorpio) during Dashami, Tithi becomes Dagdha.
  • if Surya (Sun) transits through Tula (Libra) or Makara (Capricorn) during Dwadashi, Tithi becomes Dagdha.
Another classical text Jyotish Tattwa claims that odd Rashis make Dagdha Tithi during Shuklapaksh only, while even Rashis - during Krishnapaksh. Thus if Surya (Sun) transits through Dhanu (Sagittarius) or Meena (Pisces) during Dwitiya,Tithi becomes Dagdha when it Shuklapaksh for Dhanu and Krishnapaksh for Meena. But Jyotirvidyabharanam doesn't make such a difference and during Muhurta election it's recommended to use Jyotirvidyabharanam's variant as it is considered to be more universal.

Because of Sadharana nature there's a popular belief that no important work should be begun during the time when Chandra passes through Bharani or Krttika Nakshatras.
