  • A bit on the precision of VedicTime.Com calculations

    Dear VedicTime.com users,

We try to make VedicTime services as user-friendly and simple as it's possible. To reach this aim, we hide plenty of complicated algorithms and calculations from Your eyes. This approach also concerns the definition of longitude/latitude/time zone for chosen place, but as we started to receive lots of mails concerning this point, we decided to write a small guide for You to help You to focus on Jyotish but not on searching and analyzing of input data.

First of all, we have to assure that our calculations are based on high-quality, proven and reliable data. We use the latest data on planet ephemerides, longitude/latitude coordinates of locations and time zones of geographical coordinates. It means that we neither calculate nor think them up but receive them from the organizations which specialize in these calculations and spend lots of time and money on it. In addition to it, this data is constantly being updated and corrected so we can claim that You receive the most tested and qualitative information.

As for Graha (planet) degree calculations in Your Kundali (horoscope), it can slightly differ from those provided in programs installed on Your local computer. It does so especially in those cases, when Your program was installed long time ago (2-3 years, for instance) or its version hasn't been updated for a time. What does it mean "slightly"? For quick Grahas as Chandra (Moon) or Buddha (Mercury) it can be up to a couple of minutes, for slow one (Guru (Jupiter) or Shani (Saturn)) - usually a few seconds. In case of Lagna (ascendant) - it's calculation needs more precision, thus the difference can be larger as the influence of input data is increased.

As for timezones and DST (Daylight Saving Time) changes - it's yet another topic. We work quite hard to release our users from the task of searching the right longitude/latitude/DST input data for their birthplace and birthdate. But as every system is imperfect we do not exclude the possibility that sometimes You can face some mistakes. So in case of any doubts we advise You to check Your data at www.timeanddate.com (in our opinion, reliable source for such needs), where You can find the history of all time zone and DST changes for any place in the world. And if the test is positive, do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] with the description of Your problem and screenshot from the site. You will help us to make VedicTime.com better as well as Your Jyotish-mates to avoid such kind of problem in the future.

    Best Regards,
    VedicTime.com team
