This is the 8th Nakshatra in zodiac, spanning from 3°20' to 16°40' in Karkata. This entire Nakshatra falls in the sign Karkata, ruled by the watery planet Chandra (Moon) while the barren planet, Shani (Saturn), rules this Nakshatra itself. Hence, these people possess some of the very opposite characteristics. While males born in this sign are likely to be tall but thin, females born in this sign are short in stature with an oval face.

Pushya born are faint-hearted and they do not want to alienate others through their decisions. A government or police officer born on this Nakshatra will mess up his responsibilities. But a contrary may be proved in case of natives born with strong Mangala (Mars) or Sūrya (Sun) in their natal charts. These people respect laws and believe that nobody should be above the law. A Pushya born likes flattery and he is averse to negative remarks by others.

The word Pushya means to strengthen, to fortify. Hence though the people born on this Nakshatra have to face hardships in the early part of their life, they start achieving success from their mid-twenties.
